The Cooking Class provides an enjoyable yet vital opportunity for children to learn cooking skills, gain nutritional education and make a dish which they can take home. During the cooking session, each child has their own workstation and equipment to weigh, chop, scoop, mix and measure all the ingredients required to make a tasty meal or pudding in individual portions. Fresh, healthy ingredients are provided. Cooking is a valuable life skill that is beneficial to all attendees. The young people are encouraged to try new foods and engage in discussions around healthy eating and the importance of a balanced diet. We also discuss portion sizes and choosing healthy snacks. The food is cooked in the oven by a member of staff and bagged up to take home. While the food is in the oven, the children can enjoy a play in our Role Play Area. We aim to empower children to independently make healthy food choices and provide the children with the basic cooking skills to prepare them for independent living. It costs £10 per week, per child.
